I grew up in and around Murphys, long before I ever had a thought that I might one day be a photographer – let alone a wedding photographer. When I made the trip North to photograph Kellie and Chauncey’s Murphys Ranch Engagement session I had a number of exciting realizations. The most inspiring of which being that I would be able to bring all of the experience I had gained during 8 years as wedding photographer, and apply it to a whole new area with a whole new feel. I can’t wait to return for their wedding in July…
Being a Santa Barbara based photographer is a truly unique experience. I come from a tiny Sierra town that is simply known to those who ask as, “a little place on the California side of Tahoe.” So photographing weddings for couples that are literally from all over the world was, initially, an almost surreal experience. However, after 8 years of Santa Barbara weddings, it’s actually more uncommon that I have the opportunity to photograph weddings for couple’s that have even heard of my small mountain town (Murphys, CA), let alone couples who have actually lived there! And though Santa Barbara is now, with no doubt, my home, being a Tres Sabores Wedding photographer would be a wonderful opportunity as well. . .
So when Maya referred Danielle to me I was immediately attracted to the idea of getting to shoot for her and Brendan – whom had both lived in/near Murphys previously, and whom currently live in Santa Barbara. We’ve had similar trajectories through this life and have a shared set of experience that a very small number of people these days do. All of this added up to a beautiful, love + laughter filled Napa wedding Tres Sabores winery with more than a few familiar faces, as well as a handful of new ones. Thank you again to Maya, Danielle + Brendan and every one who came together to create this celebration :)
A sweet, Summer Courthouse Elopement in Santa Barbara
Jessica and Enric are both high level academics who fell in love with each other, travel and Spain. Their sweet, Summer courthouse elopement was small – only attended by family members and an officiant. It’s always interesting to me how much you feel that you get to know a couple when you spend this kind of time with them. It was only a couple of hours, but it was almost a little difficult to say, “goodbye.” I’m no good at goodbyes!

“We desired our wedding photographs to portray what we felt – real, genuine, heartfelt love. This is exactly what we received from Kiel. Not only did he catch the moments we treasured by memory, but he caught the moments we may have otherwise missed. Kiel is not only an amazing wedding photographer, but a real, genuine, heartfelt person. A perfect fit for anyone desiring more than just photos, but emotion caught in an instant, displayed and kept alive through a photograph.” ~ Stacey Mckinnon, Bride.
